Amon-Ra St. Brown Reflects on ‘Horror Movie’ Ahead of Lions-49ers NFC Championship Rematch
The Lions return to San Francisco aiming for redemption in the NFC championship rematch against the 49ers.
Amon-Ra St. Brown vividly remembers how Detroit’s previous season ended, narrowly missing the franchise’s first Super Bowl appearance.
Detroit was defeated in the NFC championship game as San Francisco staged a comeback to win 34-31, advancing to the Super Bowl, where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime. A critical 51-yard pass that bounced off Lions’ defensive back Kindle Vildor’s facemask into Brandon Aiyuk’s hands fueled the 49ers’ rally from a 17-point halftime deficit.
Now, despite dealing with numerous injuries, the Lions have an opportunity to avenge that loss when they face the 49ers on ‘Monday Night Football’ in Week 17.
St. Brown, with 101 receptions, 1,126 yards, and 11 touchdowns this season, reflected on the NFC championship defeat as the rematch approaches.
“I want to win,” St. Brown said via Eric Woodyard of ESPN. “I remember walking off the field last year and it felt terrible. We all want to win this time. Everyone from last year knows that feeling, and we’re hoping to leave with a victory.”
When asked to rank last season’s NFC championship loss, St. Brown admitted it was tough to accept.
“That game was one of the worst losses in my football career,” he said. “It felt like a horror movie. But this is a new season, and we have a chance to make it right. We’re excited.”
While the Lions won’t face the 49ers in the playoffs this year, as San Francisco was eliminated by the Dolphins, Detroit will get their chance for payback at Levi’s Stadium on Dec. 30 for ‘Monday Night Football.’
