The Detroit Lions have faced numerous injuries throughout the 2024 season, affecting several key players on both offense and defense. Aidan Hutchinson’s injury in Week 5 was particularly notable, sidelining him for the rest of the regular season. As recently as Week 18, rookies like cornerback Terrion Arnold and veteran right guard Kevin Zeitler were injured in their victory against the Minnesota Vikings. However, the Lions have received some promising news regarding injuries ahead of their Divisional Round game against the Washington Commanders.

On January 7, Lions head coach Dan Campbell had expressed optimism about running back David Montgomery’s return for the playoff matchup, and on January 13, he confirmed that Montgomery will indeed play. “David’s a major part of our team. He’s a leader and a tone-setter,” Campbell stated during a press conference. “He’s a catalyst for us, and we’re thrilled to have him back for this game.” Montgomery, who suffered a torn MCL in Week 15 and was initially expected to miss the rest of the season, has made a remarkable recovery. His return provides a significant boost to the Lions’ chances as they chase the franchise’s first Super Bowl victory.
