Both their offensive and defensive coordinators departed for head coaching positions with other teams just days after their playoff elimination. Additionally, defensive line coach Terrell Williams left to join the New England Patriots as their new defensive coordinator.

However, the Lions acted quickly, hiring former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers as Williams’ replacement just a day after his departure.

Now, they’ve secured another significant win in stabilizing their coaching staff.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Lions are promoting offensive line coach Hank Fraley to the role of run game coordinator/offensive line coach. This move ensures Fraley stays with the Lions amid speculation he might leave for an offensive coordinator position elsewhere.

Earlier in the week, Fraley had completed a second interview with the Seattle Seahawks, and there was concern he might follow Ben Johnson to Chicago.

Retaining Fraley is a major win for the Lions, as their offensive line has been the team’s standout unit over the past two seasons. The group, which includes two All-Pros, has allowed an average of just 32 sacks per season and has been instrumental in building the Lions’ powerful run game.

After the season ended, key members of the Lions’ offensive line voiced their determination to keep Fraley.

Center Frank Ragnow said (via the Lions’ team website), “You refuse to let Hank leave. I haven’t played in this league without Hank and I don’t plan on doing it. I’ll sabotage him, leak stories, whatever it takes.” Left tackle Penei Sewell simply stated, “He’s not going anywhere.”

With Fraley staying, the Lions can count on continuity in one of the most successful areas of their team as they prepare for the 2025 season.
