Alex Chepeska, a dedicated Detroit Lions fan, is so confident that his team will win the 2024 Super Bowl that he got a tattoo declaring the Lions as champions. He got the tattoo in August, just before the start of the season, driven by an overwhelming feeling that this would be the year. “I just knew,” says Chepeska, 43, who resides in the Detroit metro area. “I had this gut feeling that they were going to make it all the way, so I had to get the tattoo before the season kicked off.”

Although some people online have questioned his decision, worrying it might jinx the team, Chepeska isn’t bothered. “They’re having the best season ever!” he says, firmly believing the tattoo is a good omen.

Chepeska has been a lifelong Lions fan, despite the team’s history of underperforming. “My dad used to warn me not to get too attached,” he recalls. “But this year is different.” He credits Coach Dan Campbell’s infectious enthusiasm, along with the team’s fresh ownership and direction, as key factors in the Lions’ impressive performance.

As for the potential outcome of the tattoo if the Lions don’t win? Chepeska is optimistic, joking that it would magically disappear like a photo fading in Back to the Future. “But seriously,” he adds, “if they lose, I’ll just change the ‘2024’ to ‘2025.’”

Chepeska is also hoping to attend the Super Bowl in Las Vegas if the Lions make it. He’s started a GoFundMe to raise $2,000 to cover the costs of the trip. “I’m so nervous for this Sunday’s game,” he admits, but if the Lions win, he’s imagining being carried off the field by Coach Campbell, with a statue of him erected beside Barry Sanders at the stadium.
