Lions Announce John Morton and Kelvin Sheppard as New Coordinators
The Detroit Lions have officially named their new coordinators.
On Thursday, Detroit confirmed that John Morton has been hired as offensive coordinator and Kelvin Sheppard has been promoted to defensive coordinator.
Morton takes over for Ben Johnson, who was hired as the head coach of the Chicago Bears. Sheppard replaces Aaron Glenn, who left to become the head coach of the New York Jets.
Morton previously served as Detroit’s senior offensive assistant in 2022 under head coach Dan Campbell, before joining Denver as the passing game coordinator for the past two seasons. He also worked with Campbell in New Orleans in 2016 when Campbell was the tight ends coach and Morton was the receivers coach.
Sheppard, a third-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2011, ended his playing career with the Lions in 2018. He was hired by Campbell as the team’s outside linebackers coach in 2021 and has served as linebackers coach for the past three seasons.
