The Detroit Lions have several decisions to make regarding the interior of their defensive line this offseason.

Alim McNeil is recovering from a torn ACL, and there is no clear timeline for his return. Levi Onwuzurike is set to hit free agency after completing his rookie contract.

D.J. Reader has frequently been mentioned as a potential cap casualty this offseason. With so much uncertainty at defensive tackle, the Lions may explore the free agent market to add stability to the position.

In a piece projecting the landing spots for top free agents at each position, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox predicted that the Lions would sign Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle B.J. Hill.

While bringing in players from the Bengals’ struggling 2024 defense may not seem ideal, Hill could be an exception.

He has consistently contributed for the Bengals and managed to be effective against both the run and pass in 2024, despite the defense’s overall struggles.

Hill recorded 56 total tackles last season, including a career-best seven tackles for loss. He also generated 32 pressures, per Pro Football Focus.

That production would make him a strong fit for a Lions defense in need of better pass rushing and run defense. While Hill wouldn’t be a blockbuster signing, he would provide much-needed reliability to a defensive tackle group facing uncertainty.
