The Detroit Lions boast a talented receiving unit, headlined by two-time All-Pro Amon-Ra St. Brown and former first-round selection Jameson Williams. Additionally, the presence of Pro Bowl tight end Sam LaPorta adds another dynamic element to their offense. However, there remains an opportunity for further upgrades.

One position that may need attention is the third wide receiver spot, previously occupied by Tim Patrick. With Patrick set to enter free agency, Detroit must identify a replacement to bolster its receiving corps.

NFL insider Jeremy Fowler of ESPN has speculated that Cooper Kupp could be a prime target for the Lions. The Los Angeles Rams are reportedly open to trading their star wideout, and Kupp already shares a strong connection with Detroit’s quarterback, Jared Goff, from their years together in LA.

Kupp, who inked a three-year, $80 million contract extension in 2022, still has two seasons remaining on his deal. Unless restructured, his contract carries a significant cap hit of $29.7 million in 2025.

From a football perspective, acquiring Kupp would be a logical move, especially for a team with championship aspirations. However, the Lions may face stiff competition in pursuing the former Super Bowl MVP, as multiple teams could express interest in acquiring his services.
