As the Miami Dolphins approach a crucial offseason, they find themselves in need of key roster improvements following a disappointing 8-9 finish in 2024 that left them out of the playoffs. However, with the team currently over the salary cap—one of eight franchises in that position according to Over the Cap—they must navigate financial constraints while addressing their weaknesses.

One pressing concern is the offensive line. Both starting guards, Isaiah Wynn and Robert Jones, are set to hit free agency, and Miami’s protection unit surrendered 43 sacks last season. Given the importance of keeping quarterback Tua Tagovailoa healthy, upgrading the line is expected to be a priority.

Matt Johnson of Sportsnaut recently highlighted an ideal free-agent signing for each NFL team. For Miami, he suggested veteran guard Kevin Zeitler, who played for the Detroit Lions in 2024 and will be available on the open market.

Johnson pointed out that Miami’s offensive line situation remains problematic, and if veteran left tackle Terron Armstead decides to retire, the need for experienced linemen will become even more urgent. He noted that Zeitler is likely to accept a short-term contract, potentially under $8 million, making him an affordable and effective solution for the Dolphins’ run game.

Zeitler, who signed a one-year, $6 million deal with Detroit last season, started 16 games and earned an impressive 86.8 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, ranking fifth among 135 qualified guards. While his strength lies in run-blocking, he has proven to be reliable in pass protection as well.

Durability is another asset Zeitler brings to the table. Over his 13-year career, he has never played fewer than 12 games in a season and was named to his first Pro Bowl in 2023, demonstrating that he remains a high-level performer.

According to Spotrac, Zeitler’s projected market value is around $9 million for a one-year deal. Despite their cap limitations, the Dolphins could structure a deal to make it work, securing a much-needed veteran presence on the offensive line.
