Aidan Hutchinson recently shared that he and Myles Garrett have discussed the possibility of playing together on the Detroit Lions, which Hutchinson believes could be a dominant force. Speaking on The Squeeze podcast with Lions fan Taylor Lautner, Hutchinson said, “If Myles and I were on the same team, it would be something special. We were talking at the NFL Honors about what could be. While it might be a long shot, I’d be ecstatic to play alongside him if it happened. Our entire defensive line would be elevated; it would be terrifying. Plus, we get along great.”
Hutchinson, who had a standout start to his career, was a favorite for the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year before an injury cut his season short. Garrett, who has been a finalist for the same award, has already established himself as one of the NFL’s top pass rushers. If Garrett were to join the Lions, it would create a potentially unbeatable defensive duo.
Hutchinson, a former second-overall pick, has accumulated 28.5 sacks over his first three seasons. Meanwhile, Garrett, the first overall pick in 2017, recently became the youngest player to record 100 career sacks. Despite his individual achievements, Garrett has expressed frustration with the Browns’ inability to compete for a title. After the Super Bowl, he publicly voiced his desire for a trade. The two defensive stars discussed the idea of Garrett joining the Lions, and while the Browns are adamant about not trading Garrett, such a move could still be on the table for the right offer.
Garrett, now 29, is entering his ninth season. His desire to play for a contender, like the Lions, is clear, especially as he seeks a championship before the end of his career. Whether the Browns would be willing to trade him and whether the Lions are interested depends on negotiations, including what the trade would cost. Garrett could use his leverage, potentially threatening to hold out or even retire if he feels his future with the Browns isn’t aligned with his title aspirations. For Garrett, the clock is ticking, and teaming up with Hutchinson could be his best shot at a Super Bowl before it’s too late.
