Former Lions Star Darius Slay Sends Bold 9-Word Message to Detroit After Eagles Release

During a recent appearance on the St. Brown Bros podcast, Slay revealed that there are two teams he’d like to play for in 2025: the Eagles and the Lions.

“Detroit is like a second home to me. I still do a lot for the city,” Slay shared. When St. Brown hinted at a potential return, Slay didn’t shy away from the idea, saying, “Oh, not at all. But you know, if it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t. For sure, the two places I’d love to be are Philly and Detroit.”

Now 34 years old, Slay may not be at the same Pro Bowl level he once was, but he remains a reliable defensive back. If he were to return to Detroit, he could provide valuable depth and experience in a secondary that struggled with injuries last season. Strengthening the defense through free agency and the 2025 NFL Draft will be a priority for the Lions, and adding a veteran like Slay could be a smart move.

Time will tell what happens, but a homecoming for Slay in Detroit would certainly be a feel-good story.
