After being released by the Broncos, wide receiver Tim Patrick has secured a return to the Detroit Lions. The veteran playmaker, known for his reliable hands, played a key role in one of the league’s most potent offenses last season, finishing with 33 receptions for 394 yards and three touchdowns. Now, he’s set to run it back with the Super Bowl contenders.

The Lions confirmed his re-signing on social media Friday, with reports indicating the deal could be worth up to $4 million.

Patrick’s journey has been far from easy. His time in Denver was derailed by consecutive season-ending injuries in 2022 and 2023—first a torn ACL, then a torn Achilles—both suffered in training camp. Despite a strong preseason performance last year, where he developed solid chemistry with rookie quarterback Bo Nix, Patrick was left off the Broncos’ final roster.

Head coach Sean Payton described the decision as “extremely difficult,” while general manager George Paton cited other positional needs as the reasoning behind the move. Ultimately, Denver opted to keep Lil’Jordan Humphrey, a player who produced less than Patrick and made costly mistakes in key moments.

Though the Broncos went 10-7 and returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2015, many within the organization and fanbase likely see letting Patrick go as a misstep.

Now, Patrick has a fresh start in Detroit, contributing to an already high-powered offense. While he may no longer be in Denver, he remains a beloved figure among Broncos fans, who will be rooting for his continued success from afar.
