Dan Campbell is focused on building a successful team for the Detroit Lions in 2025, aiming to build on the momentum of their impressive seasons. Despite setting multiple records, the Lions have yet to make it to the championship game, a goal Campbell and his staff are determined to achieve.
One of the key factors in their plans is quarterback Jared Goff. During the NFL owners meetings on April 1, Campbell emphasized how crucial Goff will be for the Lions’ future. Goff has been a cornerstone of the offense, and new offensive coordinator John Morton also highlighted the importance of Goff in the team’s strategy earlier this year. Morton expressed that understanding Goff’s preferences would be vital in tailoring the offense to his strengths.
Campbell echoed Morton’s sentiments, noting Goff’s ongoing growth. “He continues to improve every season,” Campbell said, pointing out that last year, Goff not only executed the offensive game plan but also started suggesting his own ideas. This ability to adapt and take initiative will be essential as Goff continues to evolve in his role. “He’s starting to see things and make adjustments on his own, and we expect that to continue,” Campbell added.
Furthermore, Campbell revealed that Goff would have more autonomy in the offense this season. According to NFL analysts, Campbell anticipates Goff taking greater control of the play-calling and execution. Morton, who is familiar with the offense’s current framework, expressed his intention to build upon what has already been successful without making drastic changes. “We’re just fine-tuning things and sticking to the vision Dan (Campbell) has set,” Morton said, signaling continuity and gradual improvement in their approach.
