The rodeo world is grieving following the tragic death of a young competitor who suffered fatal injuries during a bull riding event in Texas.

Dylan Grant, a 24-year-old bull rider from Wyoming, lost his life Thursday night while participating in the Extreme Bulls competition at the Wharton County Youth Fair in Wharton, Texas.

According to event officials, the incident occurred during the second round of the contest. Grant was thrown from a bull and subsequently trampled. Emergency personnel responded quickly, providing care inside an ambulance before airlifting him to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston. Despite their efforts, Grant passed away due to the severity of his injuries.

Kendra Santos, speaking on behalf of the rodeo community in a social media tribute shared by the Wharton County Youth Fair, expressed the heartbreak felt by many: “Our rodeo family lost a gifted and courageous young man last night. There are no words that can truly convey the sorrow and disbelief we all feel.”

The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) also offered their condolences, acknowledging Grant’s passing and honoring his contribution to the sport. Their message emphasized the collective grief within the tight-knit rodeo and bull riding community.

Grant had been part of the PRCA since receiving his permit in 2018. Over the years, he competed in numerous PRORODEO and Xtreme Bulls events, earning respect as a talented athlete. In 2021, while representing the University of Wyoming’s rodeo team, he secured a major win at the Mountain States Circuit Finals Rodeo, claiming the bull riding title with a two-head score of 169.5.
