Georgia Star Warns Jared Goff Ahead of 2025 NFL Season
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has earned respect around the league for his leadership and strong performances in recent seasons. After signing a lucrative contract extension last summer, Goff continues to be a vital part of Detroit’s resurgence as a contender.
However, one incoming rookie has his eyes set on Goff. Georgia safety Malaki Starks, during an appearance on The Up & Adams Show, was asked which NFL quarterback he most wants to intercept. After a brief pause, Starks replied, “Jared Goff.”
The response caught host Kay Adams off guard—many expected a more typical answer like Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson. But Starks explained that he’s heard nothing but praise about Goff from former Georgia teammates now in the NFL. According to Starks, Goff’s elite play and reputation make him a dream target to pick off.
While there aren’t any clear former Georgia players currently on the Lions’ roster, it seems the buzz about Goff’s game has spread across teams. His 2024 season was arguably the best of his career: he threw for 4,629 yards, 37 touchdowns, and just 12 interceptions. He also set personal bests in completion rate (72.4%), passer rating (111.8), and touchdown passes.
Lions Likely to Focus on Defense in 2025 NFL Draft
With Goff and the offense firing on all cylinders, the Lions are expected to turn their attention to defense in the upcoming draft. Injuries plagued Detroit’s defense throughout the 2024 season, leaving significant gaps that need to be addressed.
General Manager Brad Holmes and Head Coach Dan Campbell are reportedly targeting defensive talent, especially on the edge to complement star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson. The 2025 draft class is deep at the edge rusher position, giving the Lions flexibility to wait until the second round if needed.
If the team doesn’t go with a pass rusher in round one, they may prioritize a defensive tackle or a versatile offensive lineman to strengthen depth and durability.
Detroit is clearly aiming to solidify its roster and build on the momentum from last season, and with rookies like Malaki Starks already setting their sights on the team’s top players, the Lions are definitely drawing league-wide attentions
