A top-rated high school guard who had committed to UConn is now back on the market, and Alabama is expected to be among the schools in the hunt for his talents.

With three scholarships still available, Alabama head coach Nate Oats and assistant Preston Murphy are actively searching for players to complete their 2025 roster. Although things have been relatively quiet lately regarding the Transfer Portal, the final days of the window have brought some high-profile players into the spotlight.

One of the most notable developments came over the weekend, when 5-star guard Darius Adams asked to be released from his commitment to UConn, effectively reopening his recruitment.

Ranked No. 23 nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings, Adams is a 6-foot-5 guard known for his ability to score at all three levels, particularly with his perimeter shooting.

Alabama had been a contender in Adams’ original recruitment, even though the Tide didn’t crack his final three. Still, they were considered a strong possibility before he opted for the Huskies. Now, with immediate minutes available in the backcourt, Alabama might have a renewed shot at landing him.

Plenty of programs will pursue Adams, making this a competitive race. However, Alabama is expected to be firmly in the conversation.

Other Recruiting Developments for the Tide

Another potential target, Memphis guard PJ Haggerty, would be a major addition. However, his reported $4 million NIL demand likely places him out of Alabama’s range.

Meanwhile, Alabama is one of the leading contenders for Washington State’s Cedric Coward. The battle appears to be between Alabama and Duke, though Coward is also evaluating his prospects in the NBA Draft.

Most of Alabama’s targets so far have leaned toward being shooting guards. With Labaron Philon staying in the NBA Draft, the team still needs someone who can run the point.

To address that, Oats and his staff have expanded their search beyond the U.S., recently evaluating an international player with intriguing potential. While it’s unclear just how serious Alabama’s interest is, the player from Remagen shows promise and might be a solid addition as a late roster piece.
