Kentucky Stays Alive in Clemson Regional with Victory Over USC Upstate
The Kentucky Wildcats kept their postseason hopes alive with a solid 7-3 win over South Carolina Upstate on Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Baseball Tournament’s Clemson Regional.
Just a day after suffering a heartbreaking walk-off loss to West Virginia, Kentucky responded with resilience. The Wildcats came out swinging, scoring three runs in the first inning thanks to a three-run homer by first baseman Carson Hansen.
USC Upstate fought back, evening the score with three runs in the fourth inning. But Kentucky regained the lead in the sixth when Patrick Herrera executed a perfectly placed sacrifice bunt, allowing James McCoy—who had taken over at first base—to cross home plate. That run would ultimately stand as the game-winner.
Kentucky added insurance in the eighth inning with a pair of RBI singles from Cole Hage and Hudson Brown, extending their lead to four.
With the win, the Wildcats advance to a Sunday noon matchup against the loser of Saturday night’s Clemson vs. West Virginia game, with a spot in the Regional Final on the line.
