Phillies Place Alec Bohm on 10-Day IL with Rib Fracture
On Saturday, the Philadelphia Phillies placed infielder Alec Bohm on the 10-day injured list after he was diagnosed with a fractured left rib.
To fill his spot on the active roster, the Phillies called up utility player Weston Wilson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Bohm, 28, suffered the injury when he was struck in the ribs by a pitch from Padres starter Yu Darvish during a July 12 game in San Diego. The hit forced him to miss the team’s final game before the All-Star break on July 13. He returned to the lineup for Friday’s 6-5 loss to the Los Angeles Angels but reportedly worsened the injury during his final at-bat. Following the game, medical scans confirmed a fracture.
“He was still feeling it during his last at-bat last night,” said Phillies manager Rob Thomson. “This morning, it was still bothering him, so he’s going to get checked out by the doctor.”
In Saturday’s matchup against the Angels, 25-year-old rookie Otto Kemp took over at third base.
A 2024 All-Star, Bohm has appeared in 92 games this season, hitting .278 with a .324 on-base percentage and a .391 slugging percentage, along with eight home runs and 42 RBIs. He’s split time defensively between third base and first.
Wilson, 30, has already seen action in 22 games for the Phillies this year, batting .194 with one homer and four RBIs. He has played both infield and outfield positions. Since being optioned on June 19, he has hit .250 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in 25 games for Lehigh Valley.
