Detroit Lions Eye Jaelan Phillips in Trade with Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins dropped to 0-3 after their Thursday Night Football loss to the Buffalo Bills, and their season appears to be unraveling quickly. With the trade deadline approaching, it wouldn’t be surprising if Miami turned into sellers, moving some of their key players for future assets.
One name that stands out as a possible trade piece is Jaelan Phillips, who could bring in a strong return if the Dolphins decide to part ways with him. Among the potential suitors, the Detroit Lions look like a logical fit.
Detroit has had a mixed but promising start to the 2025 NFL season. They opened with a loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 1 but bounced back in dominant fashion against the Chicago Bears in Week 2, putting them at 1-1. While they’ve shown resilience, the Lions still need upgrades before being viewed as legitimate contenders.
A glaring need lies at edge rusher. Although Aidan Hutchinson continues to shine, injuries to Marcus Davenport and limited depth with players like Al-Quadin Muhammad and Tyrus Wheat have left the Lions thin at the position.
That’s where Phillips comes in. Entering his fifth NFL season, he has already racked up 159 pressures, 28 sacks, and 88 stops. Pairing him with Hutchinson would give Detroit one of the more dangerous pass-rushing tandems in the league and could solidify their defense as they push through the rest of the season.
