The BYU Cougars football program has received its first commitment from the Class of 2027, with the pledge coming from a candidate from the state of Utah.

On Monday, Mountain Ridge athlete Tytan DeJong confirmed his decision to the Cougars through social media.

First and foremost, I want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as well as my family, for allowing me to grow into the individual and player I am today. Having said that, after much contemplation and prayer, I am pleased to announce my commitment to BYU!!

DeJong, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 215 pounds, is a tight end and outside linebacker for Mountain Ridge.

As a junior in 2025, he had 1,057 receiving yards, nine touchdowns on offense, 30 tackles, and two interceptions on defense.

The Deseret News awarded him first-team All-State recognition for his efforts.

According to 247 Sports, DeJong has scholarship offers from Utah, Michigan, Stanford, Cal, and Purdue, as well as several Group of Five universities in the West.

2027 WR Braylon Lane commits to Houston.

According to Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman, Willie Fritz and Houston have gotten a commitment from C. E. King three-star wide receiver Braylon Lane.

Lane picked the hometown Cougars above institutions such as Arkansas, Iowa State, Kansas, TCU, and Mississippi State.

Lane explained his decision to join the Houston Cougars football team by saying, “What really excites me about Houston Cougars football is the chance to stay home and represent my city while playing at a high level. “

“Being from Houston, it means a lot to have my family and community support me every step of the way. “I want to be a part of the program’s energy and the way they’re creating something unique,” I said.

According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, which calculates a weighted average of all leading recruiting media organizations, the 6-foot-3, 185-pounder is the No. 870 overall prospect and the No. 114 WR in the 2027 cycle. He is also the 108th-ranked player in Texas.

Lane has eight touchdown receptions and 542 receiving yards in the last two seasons while playing for one of the finest high school football teams in the Lone Star State, according to MaxPreps. In 2025, C. E. King won 13 games and finished as the No. 11 team in Texas according to the Rivals Composite Rankings.

Houston first offered last summer during a camp. Fritz and Co. have been following the pass-catcher since then, and he is slated to return for an official visit at the end of May. Lane is the fourth commitment for the Big 12 program.

All four commitments in the class are from Texas. Lane flanks Mont Belvieu Barbers Hill three-star defensive lineman Raiden Cook, Katy Jordan three-star athlete Mo Poko, and Jersey Village three-star EDGE Cael Thigpen.

Cook is the headliner, checking in as the No. 701 overall recruit and No. 74 DL in the class. Houston officially signed the No. 36 class in the 2026 Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings last month. The Cougars are ranked No. 39 early in the 2027 cycle.
