Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers continue to attack the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason, with the coaching staff securing a commitment from Iowa State guard Jada Williams on Sunday evening.
Williams, a high school five-star and McDonald’s All-American, joined the Arizona Wildcats and was named Freshman All-Pac 12 before transferring to the Cyclones.
The 5-foot-6 guard joined the Cyclones last season and averaged 15. 3 points, 7. 7 assists, and 3. 5 rebounds per game, earning her First-Team All-Big 12 recognition.
A dynamic guard who has emerged as one of the best passers in college, Williams’ 7. 7 assists ranked third in the NCAA last season and she is currently filling the gap left by Jada Richard’s departure.
LSU has secured a pair of commitments via the Transfer Portal, with Williams joining Florida Gators bucket-getter Laila Reynolds.
I’m delighted to have the opportunity to coach Laila, Mulkey remarked. Our objectives for next season are consistent, making it an ideal match. Her talent and three years of SEC experience will be a valuable addition to our team.
Reynolds traveled to Baton Rouge from Florida, where she had spent the previous three seasons with the Gators.
The skillful guard completed her junior season in Gainesville averaging 12. 1 points, 3. 4 rebounds, and 1. 9 assists per game while shooting 43% from the field.
LSU continues to attack the free agency market as Mulkey seeks to rebuild her roster through the Transfer Portal, with the opportunity to make a splash on the recruiting trail.
I’m not retiring. I intend to employ two coaches as soon as possible. I intend to get in the portal and acquire two or three more players, then take some time off to visit my grandkids, who flew in late and didn’t get to see the game. Mulkey told reporters after the program’s Sweet 16 defeat to Duke that he will visit with them at the hotel tonight.
However, there is no retirement. I believe it is frequently used in recruiting. I believe that as coaches get older, they want to know how long she will be in the game. Unless LSU fires me, I’ll stay in this game until I can no longer offer a competitive product on that floor or my health fails me.
