A quarterback who was formerly on his way to Wake Forest was picked up by Auburn football on Saturday. One waited in line to take over for incoming starter Byrum Brown.

Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals confirms Gary Chatman’s commitment to the Tigers. Earlier in the week of May 4, the 6-foot-1 dual threat resumed his College Football Recruiting process.

When the Tigers and incoming head coach Alex Golesh began speaking to the new 2027 recruit, Chad Simmons of On3/Rivals made the announcement.

“In late March, the Tigers started showing serious interest, brought him on campus on April 16, and made him an offer on April 22. Simmons stated that his trip back to The Plains on May 1 “sealed it. “

This trip to Simmons was praised by the Brockwood High School star in Snellville, Georgia.

“On my second trip back up there, I just loved everything about it,” Chatman told Rivals. “The atmosphere and coaches were great… I made my choice because of that. When I left that visit, I knew I was going to enroll at Auburn.

In addition, Chatman described how he established a connection with Joel Gordon, the new quarterbacks coach who trained Brown at USF and briefly coached Brock Purdy.

The No. 69 overall quarterback in the country for the 2027 class is a three-star recruit for Auburn. Auburn was described by Chatman as “a positive environment,” which contributed to his choice.

Golesh’s long passes are complemented by a quarterback with a gentle touch. In throwing the ball to his wide receivers, he creates a powerful arc. However, Chatman’s lightning speed makes him seem like a good match for Golesh’s veer-and-shoot spread offense. After deciding on Auburn a week ago, Chatman now has a four-star wide receiver in Brylan Oduor to target in the future.
