Sports Grid analyst Zack Cook recently shared his predictions for the destinations of the top 45 free agents in the league. His projection for Onwuzurike? A move to the Baltimore Ravens.

Cook highlighted Onwuzurike’s ability to make an impact when healthy. Although injuries have hindered his availability in recent seasons, he has showcased moments of brilliance, particularly in his pass-rushing efficiency.

During the 2024 season, Onwuzurike played in 16 games, delivering a career-best performance with 28 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1 tackle for loss, and 13 quarterback hits. His Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade of 69.4 reflected a strong campaign, and his 45 total pressures ranked 15th among 219 qualified defensive linemen.

Why Baltimore Could Be the Right Fit

The Ravens, traditionally known for their defensive dominance, surprisingly struggled in pass defense during 2024, ranking 31st in passing yards allowed. While their run defense was elite (No. 1 in the NFL), their pass rush could use reinforcements. Adding a disruptive force like Onwuzurike could significantly improve their ability to pressure opposing quarterbacks.

Baltimore also faces potential departures on the defensive line. Brent Urban is set to become a free agent, and Broderick Washington underperformed in 2024, finishing with a PFF grade of 53.5. In the Ravens’ 3-4 defensive scheme, Onwuzurike could be an ideal fit at Washington’s position, lining up alongside nose tackle Travis Jones and standout lineman Nnamdi Madubuike.

Contract Projections and Financial Feasibility

According to Spotrac, Onwuzurike is expected to receive a two-year contract worth $9 million (an annual salary of $4.5 million). Meanwhile, Over the Cap estimates that the Ravens will have roughly $12 million in available cap space, making this signing financially feasible.

Will the Lions Let Him Walk?

Detroit would undoubtedly prefer to keep Onwuzurike, but the team may need to prioritize other major free-agent moves to remain competitive. If the Lions decide to allocate their resources elsewhere, Baltimore could take advantage and secure Onwuzurike for the 2025 season.
