Herriman (Utah) Mountain Ridge three-star player Tytan DeJong has committed to BYU.
He picked the in-state Cougars over offers from Michigan, Purdue, California, Utah, and Stanford.
According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, which is a weighted average of all major recruiting media outlets, DeJong is the No. 961 overall prospect and No. 53 athlete in the 2027 cycle. He is also Utah’s No. 15 player.
The two-way Beehive State standout plays linebacker and wide receiver in high school. He revealed his choice on Monday afternoon through social media:
“First, I want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and my family for enabling me to be the person and player I am now. Having stated that, after much deliberation and prayer, I am thrilled to declare my dedication to BYU. ”
In his junior season at Mountain Ridge, DeJong played 814 offensive snaps, collecting 1,054 total yards, 77 receptions, and eight scores. As a linebacker, he had 20 tackles, four pass deflections, and eight quarterback hurries.
BYU officially offered deJong the post in January. He returned to campus later that month and witnessed the Cougars upset Utah in the Holy War last season. He is Kalani Sitake and the Cougars’ top commitment in the 2027 season.
More on BYU Recruiting
Last month, BYU formally signed a top-25 recruiting class. The Cougars ranked No. 25 in the 2026 Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings, placing them third in the Big 12.
Seven blue-chippers were at the top of the class, with Folsom (Calif. ) four-star quarterback Ryder Lyons serving as the headliner. He chose the Cougars over Oregon and many other schools. Lyons ranked No. 52 overall and No. 6 QB in the country. Rivals’ Director of Scouting and Rankings, Charles Power, commented about Lyons:
“Lyons plays the position with a fearless, playmaking approach that distinguishes him from his contemporaries. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder appears to be most at ease playing outside the box. Lyons thrives on chaos, displaying inventiveness when plays fail and repeatedly discovering strategies to prolong plays. Lyons keeps his gaze downfield while evading pressure, tricking opponents with his motions before locating open targets downfield. He’s a thick, strong quarterback that’s hard to bring down and adds value as a runner, able to break tackles and generate explosive plays on scrambles or planned runs. “
Other top signees heading to Provo include: Saint George (Utah) Pine View four-star tight end Brock Harris, American Fork (Utah) Lone Peak four-star interior offensive lineman Bott Mulitalo, Englewood (Colo. ) Cherry Creek four-star tight end Ty Goettsche, and Salt Lake City Olympus four-star linebacker Adam Bywater.
