Detroit’s 2023 seventh-round selection, wide receiver Antoine Green, has officially announced that he is stepping away from football due to injury.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Green revealed that the setback he suffered last year ultimately ended his professional career.

“God has been so good to me throughout my life, but unfortunately my football journey came to an end sooner than I expected,” Green shared. “I’ve wanted to speak about this for a while, but I needed time for myself. Last year I sustained a spinal cord injury that left me with no choice but to walk away from the game. It hasn’t been easy, but I thank the Lord for protecting me and shaping me into who I am today.”

He went on to express gratitude for everyone who supported him throughout his football journey, especially the Lions organization. “I’m grateful for the past 20 years of playing through every high and low. Thank you to the Detroit Lions for drafting me and for standing behind me since the injury. I’m blessed, and I wouldn’t change my journey for anything.”

Green’s injury occurred in the Lions’ 2023 preseason opener against the New York Giants. He initially suffered a head injury in that contest and was later released with an injury settlement before being placed on injured reserve. The Lions released him again this past April.

During his rookie season, Green appeared in nine games, logging 106 offensive snaps and 71 special teams snaps. Playing in a receiving corps led by Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Kalif Raymond, and Josh Reynolds, his chances to make an impact were limited.
