The ‘leadership council’ is one of the modifications Kyle Whittingham has already made to the Michigan football squad he just inherited.

The leadership council is made up of two spring captains and eleven members chosen by the players. Among the spring captains are sophomore quarterback Bryce Underwood and redshirt sophomore running back Jordan Marshall.

In only his second year with the team and in college football, Underwood was named a spring captain. He discussed his response on Champ Media, the media division of Champions Circle.

In general, Underwood stated, it’s a blessing. I’ve simply been leading the men and working hard for the previous few weeks. I am grateful for all that they have put me through, and I doubt it would have been any different even if they were the leaders.

Even if Underwood was a key figure in the Wolverine offense last year, he will be much more so now that Jason Beck is the coordinator of that side of the ball. In his prior offenses, Beck prominently highlighted quarterback Devon Dampier as a passer as well as a runner.

With the offense aiming to lead the squad into 2026, it will be fascinating to observe how the team rallies and aligns behind the two spring captains.
