As he gets ready for his senior year at BYU, Martin held a news conference to give reporters an update on his situation.
“I’m doing fantastic, yeah. ” I’m making good progress, just, you know, attempting to become healthy, and everything is going well,” Martin stated.
The 2026 season is what LJ Martin is getting ready for.
In BYU’s victory at Iowa State last October, the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year from the previous season sustained a shoulder injury. Despite the injury, Martin kept playing.
He made the decision to have the procedure prior to the Pop-Tarts Bowl game against Georgia Tech.
“It wasn’t awful. I didn’t feel enough pain to stay on the sidelines. As a result, it was just enough to get by, and then, yeah, it just felt right. When asked about the pain he was experiencing at the conclusion of last season, Martin responded, “I simply wanted to be out there with my guys. “
To come back to BYU for one last season, Martin declined the chance to announce his eligibility for the NFL draft. In 2026, the El Paso, Texas, native will once more be expected to spearhead the attack.
Martin ran for 1,305 yards on 236 carries for 12 touchdowns in the 2025 campaign.
He looks fantastic. BYU head coach Kalani Sitake said he’s on track for [his return]. “… I appreciate the manner in which LJ is leading. ” I’m really struck by his leadership abilities and how he has improved year after year. It makes me happy that he came back. I believe the team is really in need of him, and I believe it’s a chance for him to grow into a better leader than he was in the past.
“Almost there”
Martin then provided a hopeful schedule for his return to complete health.
Regarding the possible timeframe for a return, Martin stated, “I would say I’m fairly near to (coming back). “
Through April 2, BYU conducts spring practices.
