One of the main narratives leading up to the Dallas Cowboys training camp concerns the contracts of two of the team’s most important offensive players: wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

Over his four years in the NFL, Lamb has become one of the best receivers in the game. He just finished a career-best season in 2023, setting personal records for touchdowns (12), receiving yards (1,749), and receptions (135, most in the NFL). This performance earned him a spot on the first team of the All-Pro team.

However, similar to his quarterback colleague Dak Prescott, Lamb is still without a long-term contract ahead of his contract year. The good news for the Cowboys is that, unlike Prescott, they at least have some power over Lamb.

In a recent piece, ESPN’s Dan Graziano expresses his belief that Lamb and the Cowboys will reach a resolution before the start of training camp in a few weeks, evaluating whether or not his words are an exaggeration.

I continue to think that Lamb will sign an extension with the Cowboys in time for training camp. And since they can’t use the franchise tag on Prescott, even if they don’t, they may use it on him in 2025.

They now have some negotiating leverage as a result. In regards to the previously mentioned leverage, Graziano makes note of it in his article.

The Cowboys now have the option to utilize Lamb with the franchise tag if they are unable to resolve their issues with Prescott.

The Cowboys would be prudent to sign Lamb to a contract as soon as possible, though, since the cost of elite wide receivers will only rise further than it has already this summer.
