Zack Martin and Ezekiel Elliott both skipped training camp in order to receive larger contracts a few years ago.

Is CeeDee Lamb’s turn now? Do you believe that if a deal isn’t done, he won’t show up in Oxnard? If so, what effect would that have on the team?- Riley Hutchins, Chicago, Illinois Patrik:CeeDee Lamb won’t start practicing until his deal is finalized, in my opinion. Carefully read what I just said.

There’s a chance he reports at some point out of camaraderie and to avoid accruing a hefty punishment (which would eventually be dwarfed by fresh money anyhow), but I think the deal gets done before camp gets too involved in its schemes.

That’s just my opinion based on conversations between the two parties since Justin Jefferson’s deal was announced in June.

At this point, it’s only a matter of agreeing on the transaction’s structure and, most crucially, the total financial figures.

However, when he isn’t there, it leaves a space for others to fill and demonstrate their abilities in the little time they may have available to do so many reps.

Any receiver who isn’t Brandin Cooks will have to go through the prepared Lamb reps that are being distributed around the group in order to stand out as much as possible. The Cowboys will use that information to create the WR depth chart at a later time.

Nick Eatman:Comparing the circumstances of different players is challenging.

Zack Martin lost nearly $1 million by holding out for the majority of camp the previous year, though I think his new contract gave him some compensation. Still, it was his tenth season playing in the league.

Throughout his career, he has undoubtedly amassed a little more wealth, as seen by his second contract, which at the time made him the highest-paid guard in the NFL.

Lamb, then, is at a different place. Having said that, I have the impression that he will continue to stand his ground for the time being and refrain from practicing until the deal is completed.

Since there is always a chance of injury when playing on the field, it makes sense for him to attempt and demonstrate his worth as the squad gets ready for the season to begin. It might be expensive for him if he gets hurt before the agreement is completed.

The Cowboys obviously want all of their best players to be on the field, but with his absence, players like Jalen Tolbert, KaVontae Turpin, and Jalen Brooks will get an opportunity to show themselves in a more significant capacity. In the end, I believe Lamb will be at camp with a new contract, but it is unlikely that it will occur before to next week’s opener.
