Report: Cowboys make a shocking decision on CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott Amid contract Deadlock
The Dallas Cowboys have three significant contract extensions to consider before the start of training camp.
Since the conclusion of the previous season, Mak Parsons, Dak Prescott, and CeeDee Lamb have all been looking for new contracts. But none have reached a consensus, and on July 22 camp will open in Oxnard.
Lamb appears to be moving up the ladder more than the other two players, although any one of the three could be done at any time.
Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News claims that at this time, Dallas has put talks with Lamb “ahead” of Prescott.
Watkins stated, “The Cowboys are prioritizing Lamb’s contract extension negotiations over quarterback Dak Prescott’s.” There’s a chance that lamb staying out from training camp is contributing.
According to Watkins, if an extension cannot be worked out before the start date, the wide receiver would hold out and not report to Oxnard. Something that, presumably, no one in the organization desires.
“He has been involved in a contract dispute for the entire offseason, and given the current state of affairs, he will not be reporting to training camp in Oxnard, California, next week,” Watkins stated.
Neither Parsons nor Prescott are anticipated to make it out of training camp as of Saturday.
However, nothing is official until the two stars report in a few days, so things might easily change.
Lamb would be the most recent wide receiver in the NFL to receive a significant salary this offseason if/when Dallas is able to reach an agreement with him.
The teams of Jaylen Waddle, AJ Brown, Justin Jefferson, and Amon-Ra St. Brown have all given them new contracts.
The Cowboys took a gamble by letting Lamb have the opportunity to be the highest-paid player of them all by delaying the completion of an extension for so long.
He just finished a career-best season in which he caught the most passes in the NFL in 2023 with 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Lamb completed eight games with at least 100 yards, including a spectacular 227-yard effort on Monday Night Football against the Detroit Lions.
One of the more crucial decisions for the team’s present and future is to keep him in Dallas. Players of Lamb’s caliber seldom become available through free agency.
Parsons and Prescott will eventually take precedence over all other players for the Cowboys.
After all, they are quarterbacks and pass rushers, arguably the two most crucial positions in football.
According to reports, Lamb is the primary target at the moment as they attempt to lock down the wide receiver.
