It’s hard to imagine how much worse the Dallas Cowboys’ offseason could have been.
While quarterback Dak Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, and All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons appear to have made little progress toward the long-term contracts each of Dallas’ core players are eligible for, All-Pro left tackle Tyron Smith is a New York Jet, and emerging center Tyler Biadasz is a Washington Commander.
At the beginning of head coach Mike McCarthy’s lame-duck season, the Cowboys looked even further away from winning the franchise’s first Lombardi Trophy since 1996 than they did at the beginning of the 2023 campaign.
Furthermore, it doesn’t seem like the Cowboys have made much progress in their pursuit of Parsons or Prescott; as training camp gets underway, Lamb is holding out since the two sides are still unable to reach a consensus.
Micah Parsons Opens Up on Dallas Cowboys Contract Situation
Being one of the most disruptive edge rushers in the game, Parsons is a strong contender for Defensive Player of the Year. However, the Cowboys and Parsons have also been unable to come to an agreement, with Lamb and Prescott still needing to be taken care of.
As training camp gets begun, Parsons shared his thoughts on the Cowboys’ key priorities and the current status of his discussions.
According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Parsons stated, “If you kind of figure out how the money goes and how the contract goes.” “That business side is something you kind of get. CeeDee, in my opinion, is worth two or three players.
You’re talking about an annual salary of over $30 million. How are you going to pay CeeDee Lamb if you do that? stated Parsons. That might continue for other guys.
“My perspective is that we have seven All-Pros, or however many there are. We have at least three people that I know are capable of being All-Pros, so it might be more or less.
Many guys, in my opinion, will have breakthrough years. It, in my opinion, also has an impact. “Hey, when are the other guys going to step up and be better for the team?” is what you end up asking when you talk about all these guys.
Coming off a great year at one of the most important positions on an NFL squad, Parsons added 64 total tackles and capped the 2023 season with a career-high 14 sacks.
Dallas has some highly compensated and talented players to choose from, but if Jerry Jones and the Cowboys don’t take precautions, Parsons, Lamb, and Prescott might have ascent seasons and the team takes a strong postseason run, which would further increase their value.
