On Friday, Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, gave updates regarding possible contract extensions for Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. Regarding his talks with Lamb, Jones reportedly stated,
“They’re just progressing, in my mind,” as reported by Jon Machota of The Athletic. Additionally, Jones disclosed that negotiations are underway between Prescott’s representatives and the front office.
He went on, “I would say that we’re talking.” “There is just no way I could have a valid progress point there. Furthermore, I honestly don’t have it for Lamb. It’s also not bad. I’m just assuming that discussing progress wouldn’t be beneficial.”
Jones did not, however, state that one extension was nearer completion than the other. As he waits for a new contract, Lamb is now refusing to report to training camp.
The former first-round selection is approaching the last year of his rookie deal before he is expected to be released in 2025 as a free agency. Lamb might get a new contract before Prescott, having established team records in 2023 with 135 receptions and 1,749 yards.
It was reported on July 20 by Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News that the Cowboys are “putting Lamb’s contract extension talks ahead of quarterback Dak Prescott’s.”

After other elite receivers like Justin Jefferson, A.J. Brown, Jaylen Waddle, and Amon-Ra St. Brown received contract extensions from their respective teams in the 2024 offseason, Lamb’s patience may be running thin.
Regarding Prescott, he has participated in training camp in spite of not having a new contract. next year and that’s all I really care about,” the 31-year-old told reporters on Friday. “I’m confident in a future contract agreement with Dallas.”
