CeeDee Lamb of the Cowboys replies on social media after Jerry Jones states there is no urgency in the contract issue.
As CeeDee Lamb’s holdout persists, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has consistently maintained that the wide receiver and the team are still in contract talks.
On Thursday, the tone of the conversation changed when Jones stated he “doesn’t have any urgency” to settle the conflict, to which Lamb replied with a “lol.” on social media ten minutes later.
Lamb’s first public reaction to the matter since training camp began was the post on X. The 25-year-old Lamb was selected 17th overall in the 2020 draft and is currently in the latter year of his rookie deal.
He reached a career best in 2023 with 1,749 yards receiving, having led the NFL in receptions the previous season and catching more than 1,100 yards in each of the previous three seasons.
When questioned about why he wasn’t concerned about striking a deal with Lamb as soon as possible, the team’s general manager and the ever-talkative Jones failed to provide a detailed response.
“I don´t have a sense of urgency about getting it done,” Jones stated. “Enter whatever rationale you like. Two days ago, I was at Nobu.
Cite that as the cause. Anything you wish to publish online.” Jones restated his belief that Lamb will play for the Cowboys in their September 8 season opener against Cleveland.
Jones responded, “I don’t expect not to have CeeDee Lamb, but this camp has given time, opportunities,” to other players when questioned about the receiving corps’ progress throughout the camp given Lamb’s prolonged absence.
After Jones’ comments, quarterback Dak Prescott—who is entering the last year of his own contract—provided stern backing for Lamb.
Prescott joked with reporters after his news conference, saying, “I know y’all want to ask, I got urgency for it to happen.”
