The former running back for Dallas warns that Prescott might suffer if Lamb’s problems are not rectified. The Dallas Cowboys’ offseason soap opera seems never-ending.
With the preseason just around the corner, Dallas still hasn’t resolved the situation with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, and team legend Emmitt Smith is already fed up, warning that it may even affect quarterback Dak Prescott.
Lamb signed a four-year, $14 million contract with the Cowboys after being drafted in the 2020 NFL Draft; if Jones exercises his fifth-year option, he would have to pay the receiver an additional $17.9 million.
In contrast, the Minnesota Vikings recently extended a four-year, $140 million contract to star receiver Justin Jefferson. Despite this, Lamb has been an important part of head coach Mike McCarthy’s strategy for the past four seasons.
The management, led by owner Jerry Jones, has not yet come to an agreement with the player, who just finished his rookie contract.
Lamb has been removed off the team’s active roster as a result of his nonattendance during training camp. Jones and his front office received a severe warning from Emmitt Smith, who had had enough of the back and forth on the matter.
Emmitt Smith’s submission
Regarding Lamb’s circumstances, the former running back, who spent 13 years with the Cowboys, was extremely explicit in his remarks.”The Dallas Cowboys have a very, very valuable asset in Lamb.
“He is a very, very valuable asset to Dak Prescott,” he said while speaking with RJ Ochoa, a reporter. Lamb’s absence impacts the squad as a whole, but especially the quarterback, Smith underlined.
“Now that he’s off the football field, Dak Prescott is the one under constant pressure.” And that’s not acceptable,” declared the former back. He made the observation that a quarterback with Prescott’s skill level requires elite receivers in order to succeed. Not some guy with a Plan B, C, or D. He ought to be able to succeed as your franchise quarterback.”
Smith contended that the Cowboys are placing Prescott in a challenging scenario for the 2024 season by extending talks with Lamb. “And that is not right. That’s how I see it,” he continued.
The Prescott situation
The Cowboys’ future is not looking good at all. In addition to Lamb’s contract dispute, they also need to attend to Prescott’s demands.
The team’s most recent contract is about to expire, and the star quarterback wants to begin talks on a new one as soon as possible. Prescott, whose compensation is said to be $40 million annually, is looking for a significant raise.
According to some reports, the quarterback hopes to earn an annual compensation of roughly $70 million. The athlete and the team have had tough initial talks that haven’t resulted in an agreement yet.
Smith made a blunt assessment, saying that supporters are sick of watching the club qualify for the postseason each year despite failing to win the Super Bowl in more than 20 years. All of that is currently taking place. And people are weary of seeing it,” the renowned runner cautioned.
