We are in the midst of a contract holdout for the Dallas Cowboys in CeeDee Lamb as we enter the second week of the preseason.
On this front, the first week of the preseason was eventful as well. CeeDee’s “lol” in response to Jerry Jones’ remarks regarding urgency would undoubtedly appear on t-shirts sold at Dallas Cowboys Pro Shops, should a deal be struck. Before Sunday’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams, Jerry did, in a sense, apologize during the mothership’s pregame program.
In any case, the clock is running out and the Cowboys’ regular season is about to begin in less than a month. Lamb would not have played against the Rams, of course, but it is not ideal that he is missing this season’s crucial preseason in which he, Dak Prescott, and the rest of the offense can be building chemistry. Furthermore, despite how absurd it may sound, major media sources are speculating about whether the Cowboys will actually trade Lamb due to the tension that followed last week.
In any case, Adam Schefter of ESPN discussed the situation during Monday’s NFL Live and even went on a brief tirade:
“I do not know whether they can bridge the discrepancies, which are not that much, this week, next week, or the week after. It would be a huge upset if CeeDee Lamb is not there for the start of the regular season. However, this agreement will be completed. Should it not be completed in time for the regular season to begin, it would be stunning and completely ridiculous. They will therefore find a solution. It is regrettable that it took as long as it did, but it is difficult to believe that they can not close this deal. Take a look. He still has a year left on his contract. Everyone was anticipating it. We are aware of the appropriate number.
Schefter’s tone was a little elevated, and the words do not quite capture it. There was an elevation of sorts, which makes sense considering how irritating the entire situation has been, even though he was not yelling like he was sprinting into war.
The simplest way to put it was that Schefter noted that it is disappointing that we are still in this scenario even though everyone anticipated it. He also mentioned that we are aware of the appropriate quantity. Not to speak for Adam, but I think he stated something along the lines of the dots being there and only needing to be joined.
Will the Cowboys make that decision? CeeDee’s to sign on to that one? With everything he has accomplished in his career, you would think, sure.
