The Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Clarence E. Hill Jr. reports that although there is hope that a deal will be reached before the Cowboys play their first game of the season, the Dallas Cowboys and CeeDee Lamb are “not close” to ending their contract dispute. Lamb has been holding out for a new contract, and there have been many twists and turns along the way.

“It seems highly likely that an agreement will be reached. However, a contract extension is still far from finalized,” Hill wrote on August 14.

Lamb is requesting an extension that will enable him to compete with the league’s best receivers. At $35 million annually, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson is now the highest-paid non-quarterback. Lamb probably will not match or exceed that, but the Cowboys have not yet presented him with a suitable offer. According to Hill, there are more moving pieces.

Lamb is not attempting to surpass Jefferson per se. That much has been recognized by vice president Stephen Jones, according to Hill. The Cowboys, meanwhile, are still a few blocks away, according to a source, and their best offer is still $33 million a year.

“Getting a deal done requires more than just that because the process also involves cash flow and structure.”

Ranchers Inform CeeDee Lamb of Your Missing Him

Lamb would not have played in the Cowboys’ opening preseason game had he not missed all of training camp. He is paid fines totaling more than $1 million, but if they can work out an agreement, the team may waive those.

When Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stated that he did not feel under any “urgency” to resolve his differences with Lamb, it caused a commotion. Lamb took exception at that and deleted the Cowboys from his social media accounts, posting a “lol” in response.

Before the Cowboys’ preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams, Jones made clear his position on Lamb.

Jones remarked, “I believe I got into trouble for it the other day when I said, ‘Look, we are not urgent about CeeDee.'” “Well, nobody values CeeDee’s presence on the field more than I do. But allow me to say this: if he had been here, he would not be snapping pictures today. You must exercise caution while revealing important actors.
