Almost all of the Cowboys’ starters were in attendance, so this was not a dress rehearsal, but they did get a close-up look at first-round choice Tyler Guyton, who is expected to play left tackle.
He was able to get looks against the Raiders’ first-team defense for the whole of the half, despite not playing much against Raiders All-Pro defensive end Maxx Crosby. Guyton kept demonstrating that he is headed in the right direction for the season opener, in which he will encounter Cleveland’s All-Pro Myles Garrett frequently. In the first half, the Cowboys managed to run for 114 yards without giving up a sack. Even if Guyton was not to blame for any of it, there were not any obvious errors.
Trey Lance, the backup quarterback, had a strong first half performance against the majority of the Raiders’ starting defensive linemen. He completed his last seven passes of the half, including a fade pass that resulted in a touchdown for Ryan Flournoy, after a slow start. In addition, he ran for 34 yards, including a 20-yard run that allowed Brandon Aubrey to kick a 66-yard field goal.
