With the regular season about to begin in two weeks, it is anticipated that the Dallas Cowboys and superstar wideout CeeDee Lamb would intensify their contract negotiations.

“It appears that Dallas will be putting a lot of pressure on Lamb,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler stated on Sunday’s SportsCenter. “It will cost them well over $30 million annually to close that contract.

CeeDee Lamb is attempting to approach the $35 million annual Justin Jefferson market as closely as possible. They are so attempting to identify a sweet spot on each of those points. I anticipate Lamb finishing first.”

The star quarterback is reportedly “well aware of how well he can do in free agency if he were to just let this ride out, play well again and put up a huge QBR and then be there in March for $60 million a year, whatever it’s going to cost,” according to Fowler, who also stated that the Cowboys were going to try to work out an extension for Dak Prescott ahead of the regular season. It’s going to be quite expensive.

It doesn’t feel like good business for the Cowboys to have allowed negotiations with their top quarterback and wide receiver to drag on for this long, and it has clouded training camp somewhat. Lamb has held out the entire time that Prescott has been a member of the squad.

The Cowboys will eventually have to give in and give their best players a fair market value. Prescott has complete control because he can leave in free agency, but if the Cowboys opt to use the franchise tag on Lamb after the season, they run the danger of permanently damaging their relationship. In both agreements, it seems like Jerry Jones and the front office overreached themselves.
