Former ESPN commentator and NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III recently spoke candidly about the Dallas Cowboys’ treatment of Dak Prescott’s contract negotiations.

Griffin claimed in a one-on-one interview that the Cowboys are making a “mistake” by not signing Prescott to a long-term contract, perhaps laying the stage for serious consequences.

Griffin emphasized Prescott’s importance to the Cowboys, stating that the quarterback is the franchise’s cornerstone and a leader on and off the field. He claimed that the uncertainty surrounding Prescott’s contract could harm team morale and cause unwanted distractions.

“Dak has proven time and time again that he’s the guy you want leading your team,” according to Griffin. “He’s done everything the right way, both in terms of his performance and his leadership.”

According to Griffin, permitting Prescott to enter free agency would be a huge risk for the Cowboys, but it might also make him the most sought-after free agent in NFL history. “If Dak walks, it’s not just about losing your starting quarterback,” Griffin added.

“It’s about losing the heart and soul of your team.” Griffin also stated that by postponing a new contract, the Cowboys risk incurring even higher financial obligations in the future. “The market for quarterbacks isn’t getting any cheaper,” he told me. “By hesitating now, the Cowboys could end up paying a lot more down the line.”

Griffin believes the Cowboys should act quickly to secure Prescott’s future in Dallas, or risk losing a key player who may transform another franchise’s fortunes.
