The Dallas Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones have been at the center of contract news throughout the most of the 2024 offseason.
Now that they’ve completed a contract with standout wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, all of their attention is now focused on star quarterback Dak Prescott.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is avoiding Dak Prescott’s contract
contract Jones, unlike the majority of NFL owners, usually addresses the media in the same way as a general manager would. In one case, Jones appeared on a radio show and was asked about Prescott’s probable new contract.
Jones responded by refusing to discuss the contract at all, resulting in a slew of angry Dallas fans who simply want to see one of their favorite players rewarded. Prescott’s new contract will make him one of the highest-paid players in NFL history, regardless of his current team.
If the Cowboys opt not to keep him after the 2024 season, he will become a free agency in 2025. Jones believes the Cowboys can afford to make Prescott the highest-paid player in the league, but addressed the challenges in a post on Yardbarker.
“We have the challenge of not only recouping what we’ve spent on him over the last four years,” Jones added regarding Prescott. “We have to add that to what we’re going to pay him in the future.
“The Dallas Cowboys will not have the funds to invest on supporting cast, thus this is not Dak’s issue. Can we achieve the success that Dak, his team, and fans deserve? Can we achieve it while remaining within our budget for Dak? “I believe we can.
If Jones and the Cowboys want to keep Prescott, delaying the agreement could cost them more money in the long run.
