Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson appears to have avoided a serious knee injury after leaving Sunday’s 33-17 win over the Cleveland Browns in the third quarter.
Ferguson was injured while attempting to leap over a defender after making a 2-yard catch with 6:11 remaining in the quarter. He landed awkwardly on his left leg and needed assistance from trainers to leave the field.
Initial evaluations after the game were promising. According to NFL Network, early tests showed no signs of a torn ACL, and X-rays came back negative. Ferguson is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday to confirm the extent of the injury.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott expressed relief, stating, “I think we dodged a big one,” regarding the potential seriousness of Ferguson’s injury. Head coach Mike McCarthy also noted that Ferguson was in good spirits and able to move around following the team’s victory.
Before exiting the game, the 25-year-old tight end recorded three catches for 15 yards. Last season, Ferguson played in 17 games, including 16 starts, and was a key offensive contributor for Dallas, finishing with 71 receptions for 761 yards and five touchdowns.
The Cowboys will be closely monitoring Ferguson’s condition, but the early signs are encouraging. Both the team and fans are hopeful that he will make a quick recovery and be back on the field soon, as he is an essential part of the Cowboys’ offense moving forward.
