Even though Jake Ferguson’s situation is improving, the Dallas Cowboys might cover all their bases if they sign a former wide receiver from the New York Jets. Although C.J. Uzomah had a difficult offseason heading into the 2024 season, the Cowboys might be wise to sign the free agency.

Although Ferguson was fortunate not to suffer a serious injury in Week 1 (more on that later), it is always better to be safe than sorry. Uzomah might be the best choice if Dallas decides they need to bolster the TE group.

Although Ferguson was fortunate not to suffer a serious injury in Week 1 (more on that later), it is always better to be safe than sorry. Uzomah might be the best choice if Dallas decides they need to bolster the TE group.

The Philadelphia Eagles cut Uzomah lately because he was unable to make the roster. Although his production has never taken off, the former Auburn Tiger still has 192 receptions, 1891 receiving yards, and 16 touchdowns to his credit.

At this point, it makes more sense to replace Ferguson with a player who has experience and demonstrated skill. Additionally, the Cowboys’ tight end group lacks experience overall. Both Hunter Luepke and Luke Schoonmaker are gifted athletes who are only in their second NFL season.

It would be best for Dallas to get a nine-year player like Uzomah if Ferguson’s situation gets worse or becomes more complicated.

Before the Saints game, Ferguson releases a major injury update.

Although Uzomah is a good choice, Dallas could be able to relax. Initial concerns following Ferguson’s injury against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday included a potential catastrophic ACL tear. According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, Ferguson stated that the discomfort has lessened just three days later.

Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson revealed on Sunday that the pain level from his knee injury was a 10. On September 11, Machota posted on X, saying, “Today is zero.” At first, it was assumed to be an ACL damage. Fortunately, it was only a minor fracture. It is hardly even a Grade 1, in my opinion.

Ferguson is unquestionably the starting tight end, which is excellent news for the Cowboys. His 2023 season of 71 receptions, 761 yards, and five touchdowns seemingly set him up for another big year in Dallas’ offense as he burst onto the national limelight.

He might not have to miss any time at all if he avoids a serious injury like an ACL sprain or tear.

Cowboys Are Pressed to Replace Ferguson with Facebook

If necessary, Dallas might search the free agency or trade market, but according to Brian Martin, writer for Blogging the Boys, the team already has reinforcements. Martin outlined the reasons why FB Hunter Luepke ought to be taking snaps in lieu of Ferguson in a post published on September 12.

To avoid any possibility of a potential reinjury, the Dallas Cowboys should probably think about sitting Ferguson this week unless they are positive he is fully recovered. This week’s Cowboys offense may have a little edge over the Saints thanks to Luepke’s versatility and ability to play multiple positions. Their ability to switch between fullback and tight end on any given play allows them to seamlessly switch between 12 and 21 players as needed.

Martin adds that against Cleveland, Dallas effectively substituted Luepke for a natural tight end. As an inline tight end (10) Luepke actually saw more snaps than as a backfield fullback (8.)

Fans of the Cowboys may get to see a lot more of Luepke in the upcoming weeks because he has a lot of positive qualities.
