On Thursday, September 12, the Miami Dolphins played the Buffalo Bills, and although they lost 31–10, it wasn’t the worst aspect of the game. Tua Tagovailoa, the quarterback for the Dolphins, sustained an injury during the contest. Later, it was determined that this was his third concussion during his NFL career. Regarding Tagovalioa’s future in the NFL, former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is now making a clear statement.
“That is it… NFL go ahead and do the right thing Tua has had entirely way too many concussions,” Bryant said on X on September 12. Due to health worries over his longevity, he must retire.
After suffering several concussions in 2022, Tagovailoa was subsequently sidelined by the Dolphins for the entire campaign.
“Though it seems unlikely that he will take Bryant’s advice and retire, Tagovailoa will be under the microscope of fans and the media moving forward as debates about the ethics of his ongoing participation continue through the rest of the season,” John Dillon wrote in a September 13 article for USA Today’s Touchdown Wire.
Shannon Sharpe, a former NFL tight end, expressed similar worries on social media as well.
Just slide, dude, Tua. Sharpe posted on September 12 on X. “I really hope Tua is okay, but he needs to seriously consider shutting it down,” he continued. I H8 stating this. He is still a young man with his whole life ahead of him, but his concussions are becoming worse and worse.
Miami and Tagovailoa reached an agreement for a four-year, $212.4 million extension with $167.1 million guaranteed after his 2023 campaign.
Dolphins Head Coach “He is the Starting Quarterback of His Family,” said Mike McDaniel.
Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was questioned about what he said to Tagovailoa as the player was leaving the field at a press conference after the game.
“I told him to go in the locker room, take a deep breath, and I will see you soon. He is the starting quarterback in his family,” he remarked.
McDaniel responded, “My energy is coming from my supreme care and concern for him, and quite honestly, it is probably misguided that I was not projecting that energy out on you,” when asked whether he was “super concerned” about where Tagovailoa is right now “from a human aspect.”
“But, I completely understand what you are saying, and it is because of the overwhelming support that you feel compelled to express as loudly as you can that it is imperative that he is evaluating nothing related to football at this time, and in terms of — I suppose there was no conversation about him not leaving the field,
Additionally, he was very talkative with the medics and trainers in the locker room, so I believe you could evaluate that in black and white compared to other instances. There is just so much to consider; Tua and the medical professionals, who are the experts, are the individuals who matter most.
The head coach went on, “I spoke with him just an hour ago. I have not spoken to him yet because he was still asleep, but they are supposed to get together here soon for their first after-action meeting with experts. However, I understand and value it, and I did not get angry with you. There is undoubtedly a strong emotional connection to it.
