On the opening play of their Week 1 game, Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson sacked Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Tomlinson will now have to cover the expense. Reporter Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal claims that Tomlinson’s hit resulted in a sizable fine from the league. “#Browns DT Dalvin Tomlinson was fined $22,511 for his sack of Dallas #Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, where he landed with his full body weight on the quarterback,” Easterling wrote in an article on X. During the first week of the season, Tomlinson’s fine was the highest issued by the NFL.
The hit went unnoticed during the game, and there was a lot of debate about the fine. “Tomlinson gets fined for a routine sack but Cowboys LB Campbell does not get fined for the hip-drop tackle (there was also no flag on the play btw) that injured Njoku lmao,” a fan commented on X.
Was there something I missed? What was the hit is problem?” penned an additional. It was not just Tomlinson who received a fine throughout the match. Trevon Diggs, a cornerback for the Cowboys, was also fined $16,883 for needless roughness.
