BREAKINGS: Dallas Cowboys Sign Washington Commanders Star With 6 sacks and 139 tackles
The Dallas Cowboys lost a defensive lineman to injured reserve and compensated by signing a player from the Washington Commanders’ practice squad to their 53-man roster.
Dallas Cowboys place Jordan Phillips on IR
According to a statement from the Cowboys, defensive tackle Jordan Phillips was placed on injured reserve due to a wrist injury. The Giants traded Phillips to Dallas in August, and he recorded one tackle in the Cowboys’ Week 1 victory over the Cleveland Browns.
Phillips will be eligible to return on October 27, when the Cowboys face the San Francisco 49ers.
BCowboys add Carlos Watkins from the Commanders
As per the statement, the Cowboys signed Carlos Watkins off the Commanders’ practice squad.
Watkins is no stranger to Cowboys fans, having played for the team in 2021 and 2022. In 2021, he had a career-best season with 32 tackles and a pick-6. It’s understandable why Watkins would rejoin Dan Quinn’s defense.
At 30, Watkins has played eight seasons, starting in 37 of his 72 appearances. He has recorded six sacks, 139 tackles, and one forced fumble in his career.
Watkins was originally drafted by the Houston Texans in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
