The Dallas Cowboys are off to another rough season, and fans are expressing their displeasure. Meredith Yeomans reports on one fan who is taking his frustration public.
The Cowboys’ poor start has many fans upset, including one who’s brought his message to the streets.
“I’m here out of passion and love,” said Stephen Gonzalez, a lifelong Cowboys fan from Allen.
Following Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens, dropping the Cowboys to a 1-2 record, Gonzalez took a bold stand, hoping the team would do the same.
On Monday, Gonzalez stood outside the Ford Center at The Star, the Cowboys’ headquarters, holding a cardboard sign that read, “Fire the GM, Jerry!”
“Let my voice be heard,” Gonzalez said.
The sign calls for Jerry Jones, the Cowboys’ owner, to fire himself as the team’s general manager.
Gonzalez’s bold move caught the attention of many passing by The Star, with one driver even shouting, “Preach!”
“As fans of the Dallas Cowboys and the brand Jerry built, we feel it’s time for change,” Gonzalez said. “Let someone else take over.”
A photo of Gonzalez with his sign has amassed nearly 200,000 views online, with one comment labeling it, “A movement all of #CowboysNation can support.”
“This is how we penetrate the front office. If we casually mention it, he’ll never hear, but this is what we’re saying,” Gonzalez explained.
On Tuesday, Jerry Jones addressed the criticism during an interview with 105.3 The Fan’s Shan and RJ.
“It’s fair. Every decision involves my approval or acquiescence. How could it be otherwise?” Jones responded.
A die-hard Cowboys fan, Gonzalez insists he won’t abandon his team or its loyal fan base.
“I hope others will join me,” he added.
However, Jones has made it clear he doesn’t intend to step down.
