“All-in,” as team owner and general manager Jerry Jones put it, was how the Dallas Cowboys started the 2024–25 NFL season. To be “all-in” means to hold off on signing record-breaking deals for standout players CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott.
With Mike McCarthy in the last year of his contract, Jerry Jones has always had high expectations for the team, and many think it is Super Bowl or bust for the head coach.
The Cowboys will probably be looking for a new head coach if they miss out on the postseason or if they lose in the first round of the playoffs.
Bill Belichick’s remarks regarding the Dallas Cowboys roster cause controversy
Although many have connected the Cowboys to the illustrious NFL coach Bill Belichick, some do not think it will ever happen.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk believes that Jerry Jones “ultimately will be too cheap to pay Belichick” due to his conservative attitude to making huge splashes in free agency or any big hires in previous years.
“Many think this one is obvious,” wrote Florio. In the end, I believe Jerry Jones will be too cheap to pay Belichick. Jerry will take advantage of the opportunity to garner as much attention as he can till then. In January, he even made it known that he would eventually hire Belichick, having just announced that the coach, who had won 36 games in the three regular seasons, would return for the last year of his contract.”
It is undoubtedly something to think about.
NFL analyst: If Bill Belichick were the Cowboys coach, he would “look like a clown.”
Jerry loves attention and making news, so Belichick will stay connected to Dallas until it is time to actually make a hire, should the organization choose that path. Jerry will not stop any rumors from spreading along the route.
If McCarthy is fired, the Cowboys will have the chance to pick Belichick as their next head coach since he is itching to coach again, but at what cost?
If the Cowboys gave Belichick less money than he made with the New England Patriots, would he be willing to take a coaching position again? Sportico claims that Belichick inked a contract extension in 2023 that will pay him about $25 million year.
It is unlikely that the Belichick-Cowboys will get married until he accepts a pay decrease. Time will tell, though.
