If the New York Jets intend to trade Haason Reddick, it won’t be to the Dallas Cowboys.

ESPN NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler reported that Reddick “isn’t a viable option via trade due to cost.”

Dallas is exploring pass-rushing alternatives after a string of injuries in their Week 4 game against the New York Giants.

Star player Micah Parsons sustained a high ankle sprain, while DeMarcus Lawrence is coping with a midfoot sprain. Fowler said Parsons is “week-to-week” while Lawrence’s absence is “open-ended, but not season-ending.”

A Trade for Reddick is Unlikely

Fowler didn’t specify what he meant by the “cost” for Reddick being too high for Dallas.

Was he referring to Reddick’s $14.25 million salary in 2024? Or was he alluding to the potential trade compensation needed to persuade the Jets?

It’s possible it’s both.

Reddick’s salary narrows the field of teams able to trade for him, as they’d need to accommodate his contract.

The Jets initially gave up a conditional 2026 third-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for Reddick in March. For it to rise to a second-round pick, Reddick must record 10 sacks and play in 67.5% of the defensive snaps.

Trading him for less than what the Jets paid would be unwise. In fact, trading him at all without a better return seems equally foolish.

It’s doubtful, as any acquiring team would only get him for the remainder of the season. Plus, it’s unclear what kind of shape Reddick is in or if he’s ready to play. He’s also unhappy with his contract, which could complicate matters further.

NMore questions remain than answers at this point.

New Report Clarifies Jets-Reddick Situation

Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers hinted on “The Pat McAfee Show” that Reddick might have fired his agent.

NFL Insider Dianna Russini from The Athletic dispelled that rumor.

“That didn’t happen; [Tory] Dandy is still communicating with the Jets on behalf of Reddick,” Russini wrote in a column on Saturday, September 28.

Jets GM Joe Douglas has publicly stated there’s no intention to trade Reddick.

“While the team doesn’t want to, other GMs think the Jets should consider trade calls. The NFL trade deadline is November 5,” Russini said. “I don’t sense internal panic, especially with first-rounder Will McDonald exceeding expectations (five sacks). As for Reddick, without a new deal, I doubt he plays for the Jets. It may be surprising if he ever takes a snap for them.”
