The Dallas Cowboys’ offense has struggled to create explosive plays in the first month of the season. With key defensive players now injured, the team has a strong reason to make a significant move before the NFL’s November 5 trade deadline.

Enter star wide receiver Davante Adams, who expressed to the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday, October 1, his preference to be traded rather than finish the season with the team, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The Raiders seem willing to comply, reportedly open to deals involving Adams in exchange for a second-round pick and another asset, as noted by Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.

Bill Barnwell of ESPN wrote on Tuesday, listing several teams that should pursue Adams, including the Cowboys.

“After extending Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, owner Jerry Jones has cited financial constraints for not signing Derrick Henry,” Barnwell explained. “Dallas is 2-2, but with injuries to Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence, the team doesn’t seem to be moving in the right direction.”

However, Barnwell noted that Adams’ $140 million contract might be too much for Dallas and wouldn’t address the team’s biggest needs.

“With Lamb, Prescott, and Parsons likely earning over $120 million combined next year, the Cowboys are heavily invested in three players,” Barnwell added. “They need help running the ball and stopping the run. Trading for a receiver, however, feels like a typical Cowboys move.”

If Jones couldn’t afford Henry, Adams’ contract, which runs through 2026, may also be a stretch. Still, players of Adams’ talent rarely become available, and with Jones’ desire to win now, it’s an option the Cowboys might consider.
