The trade deadline is approaching on Nov. 5, and the Cowboys are a team to keep an eye on. Dallas is not in the position it expected, currently sitting in third place in the NFC East with a 3-3 record.
If the Cowboys struggle in the coming weeks, might they trade some high-cost veterans? It doesn’t seem likely. Dallas doesn’t appear to be a team that will give up, regardless of the circumstances.
That said, Koby Skillern of Fox16.com compiled a list of players the Cowboys should consider trading, putting four-time Pro Bowler DeMarcus Lawrence at the top.
“DeMarcus Lawrence is in the final year of his contract, and with the Cowboys facing cap issues, it’s doubtful they’ll re-sign him,” Skillern noted. “If they fall out of playoff contention, Lawrence could be an ideal trade target for teams looking to strengthen their pass rush.
“The Detroit Lions, especially after Aidan Hutchinson’s recent injury, would be an excellent fit. As contenders, adding Lawrence could push the Lions to the next level.”
It would be surprising if Dallas traded Lawrence, despite him being in the last year of his three-year, $40 million contract.
Dallas could still make the playoffs this year despite the slow start. While it makes sense to consider such a move, the Cowboys don’t seem likely to sell before the deadline unless something significant happens.
