On Thursday morning, Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman discussed the status of the Dallas Cowboys (3-3) during his weekly radio interview on 96.7 The Ticket.
The longtime Cowboy, MVP of the Super Bowl in the past, and color analyst for “Monday Night Football” now targets star wideout CeeDee Lamb and the team’s wide receiving group.
Regarding Dallas’ wide receivers, former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman said on @dfwticket, “I think the routes are terrible.” They run horrible routes, in my opinion. And I’ve thought that beyond this year. I think CeeDee (Lamb) has got to improve in his route running. As a quarterback, if you’re not…
Despite having a bye in Week 7, Dallas is coming off a humiliating 47-9 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 6. The Cowboys are now 0-3 at AT&T Stadium this season after suffering their worst home defeat since 1988.
Before the 1989 season, Jerry Jones assumed ownership of the team and selected Aikman with the first overall pick in April of that year.
Despite winning three Super Bowls as “America’s Team” led by the now-82-year-old and a six-time Pro Bowler, Dallas has not made it back to the big stage or an NFC Championship Game since the 1995 season.
When the Cowboys play the 49ers in Week 8, they will have about half of the season remaining. In the NFC East, they are still chasing, but there are warning signs all around.
Dallas has the 30th-ranked defense in the NFL (28.0 points allowed per game) and the third-worst point differential (-42) in the NFC, only ahead of the Los Angeles Rams (1-4) and Carolina Panthers (1-5) due primarily to its 44-19 blowout loss against the New Orleans Saints and Sunday’s rout against the Lions.
Pro Bowl defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence (foot) and two-time first-team All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons (ankle) are two of the defense’s most notable casualties. DaRon Bland, an All-Pro cornerback, is also recovering from a foot injury.
After six games, the Cowboys’ offensive rushing attack has yielded just 463 yards on the ground, which ranks lowest in the NFL.
Since he was heavily lambasted for his Tuesday morning radio appearance in which he ridiculed the show is co-hosts for their questioning approach, Jones has had a particularly difficult week.
The team’s wideouts are now being called out by a franchise icon, and in the days to come, questions regarding Aikman’s remarks will surely be directed against the squad.
Maybe this is the ideal opportunity for the Cowboys to have a bye week.
